Biography: Soonyoung was a happy, bright child, who grew into a happy, bright teenager. From very young he was bubbly and social, very quick to make friends, and very conscious to keep them happy. It was that need to please that got him in trouble during his freshman year of High School. Although he liked to think of himself as a low-maintenance kind of guy, he also wanted to be included, wanted to be one of the cool kids. He approached the most popular kids at school and they accepted him easily enough; he wasn't bad looking, he was funny and he was a dancer, which definitely upped his cool factor.
The problem was that, like most typical popular teenagers, they were bullies. At first, Soonyoung didn't do anything. He didn't join in, didn't really laugh at the jokes, but didn't try to stop anything either. This all changed one day, when his group of friends came up with a cruel plan to bully one of the female students in their class. They wanted to steal her clothes while she showered after gym, and then take photos of her, hopefully naked, to post on the school website. It was horrible, it was stupid, and it felt wrong. He decided that, from now on, he would not stand idly in front of injustice. Soonyoung quickly told the plan to a teacher, and thankfully the prank was stopped before it could be put into motion. Angry that he'd betrayed their trust and that they now faced disciplinary actions, Soonyoung's former friends shunned him, rejected him, and turned their bullying onto him.
It wasn't so bad at first. Soonyoung felt rather proud that he'd stood his ground and helped someone else, and also that the bullying was now so focused on him that the other students weren't targeted anymore. Eventually, it became too much, and he decided to transfer to a new school. Soonyoung wanted to be liked, wanted to have friends and be included, and he was never going to have that unless he left. By a stroke of luck, the transfer happened around the time the Seoul High School of Performing Arts was hosting auditions for new students. They liked his dancing, even though it was very unpolished at the time, and took him in.
Soonyoung made new friends and was quickly able to thrive in the artistic, creative environment of his new school. He developed a real passion for choreography, and decided to pursue dancing as a major in university so that he could become a dance teacher and, someday, a choreographer for idol groups or stage musicals. He joined Yonsei because he liked the dance program, and has not yet joined a fraternity but might do so in the fall.
